Make kindness a part of your daily routine. It’s one of the best habits to have.
Today, I went to work in the morning and decided to use the afternoon to run errands. We are in the middle of updating our home so I thought I’d make a couple quick stops to get paint and such. Anyone with an infant knows that quick stops can quickly turn into 3 hours of frustration.
The first place we went didn’t have what we needed. The next one, we got a couple of the things we were looking for but Dom was starting to get tired. I hadn’t had the chance to grab breakfast or lunch so I got in line for an Auntie Anne’s pretzel. Maybe I looked exhausted or perhaps it was Dom’s nodding head but the woman in front of us kindly told me to go ahead, that she was in no rush. Since Dom wasn’t upset, I told her thank you but that I was alright. Even though I didn’t accept, the gesture made me smile.
The next stop was at Menards for paint and other supplies. Dom was in his wrap and fell asleep so I was able to get what I needed without any issues. After checking out, I was struggling a bit to get my cart to stay put by my car so I could put Dom into his seat before loading my paint and such into my trunk. A couple walked by and the woman asked if she could help. This time, I accepted and she was even kind enough to take the cart and put it away for me. It took her only a couple minutes of her time but it meant the world to me.
In our day-to-day lives, it’s easy to get caught up in our own priorities and lives. When someone else goes out of their way to do something nice, it feels really good and can completely turn around your whole day. If you get the chance to do that for someone, take it. It can be big like taking some homemade cookies to someone who’s been having a rough time or it could be as simple as smiling at a stranger who looks like they could use a smile. I made that a personal goal many years ago and to this day, I haven’t missed a day yet. Even on the worst days, I’ll send a happy text to someone I haven’t talked to in a long time to let them know someone is thinking of them.
I challenge everyone who reads this blog to do at least one nice thing every day for someone else. Be someone’s hero.
